About The Digital Dad

The Digital Dad

Hi — I’m The Digital Dad.

I’m a UK dad, and I know how hard it can be to keep up with the games, apps, spending, online chat and settings that children run into every day.

The Digital Dad is where I explain that digital world in plain English, for parents who don’t have the time (or the desire) to become tech experts.

What I believe

  • No scare stories. Most of what children do online is ordinary. Panic doesn’t help anyone make good decisions.
  • No judgement. Every family’s rules are different, and that’s fine.
  • Conversations beat surveillance. Parental controls are useful, but a child who will come and tell you when something goes wrong is worth more than any app.
  • Control → Guidance → Independence. Start with sensible boundaries, then give children more freedom as they show they can handle it.

How the guides are put together

The guides and articles draw on the platforms’ own published settings and help pages, and on guidance from UK organisations such as the NSPCC, Childnet and Ofcom. Sources are linked where they matter.

The guides are independent and unofficial. The Digital Dad isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Epic Games, Roblox Corporation, Apple, Google, Microsoft or any other company mentioned on this site.
